Dj Controllers That Work With Djay Pro And Mac

DISCLOSURE: I’ve done some freelance work with Algoriddim.
It’s been a while since there was an update to the macOS version of djay Pro, Algoriddim’s flagship DJ software. That might be because it’s already pretty fully featured, but when has that stopped anyone? Now we have djay Pro for Mac version 1.4.3.

This latest update has the usual fixes and tweaks you’d expect, but also brings with it plug & play support for some heavyweight DJ gear, including Pioneer’s TOUR1 festival installation. There’s also complete support for Pioneer Link, the ethernet cable connection that lets Pioneer gear talk to each other. This basically means you just need one USB cable plugged into your laptop to get you mix on.

Djay Pro integrates seamlessly with existing professional DJ hardware. In addition to supporting over 50 MIDI controllers by Pioneer, Numark, Reloop, and other manufacturers out of the box, djay Pro also includes an advanced MIDI Learn system. Reloop MIXTOUR is a portable cross-platform DJ controller developed for the award winning app DJAY 2 from Algoriddim. MIXTOUR has been designed from the ground-up to offer a compact, two-channel DJ controller layout which allows you to get the party started anywhere, anytime. Philips M1X DJ; Vestax Spin 2; Supported controllers via USB adapter. While the FREE version works with the controllers listed above plug-and-play via the controller’s Lightning connector, support for over 50 MIDI controllers is available with a PRO subscription and a USB adapter (see below).

Dec 22, 2014  That makes djay Pro and djay for iPhone and iPad the only set of DJ programs that have this, to my knowledge. Using with & without extra equipment. Generally, djay Pro is good in that it doesn’t need you to own a controller, or an audio interface, at all. All other standard MIDI controllers are supported via djay Pro’s MIDI Learn feature, which lets you map jog wheels, buttons, sliders, and knobs on the controller to functions in djay Pro. To get started, simply launch djay Pro, connect your MIDI controller, and follow the instructions in the app (or select “Configure” from the MIDI menu in djay).

During the last MacBook Pro keynote, Apple showed off the new Touch Bar using a version of djay Pro with the feature integrated. So far, it’s only been available internally to the Algoriddim team. Now though, it’s released into the wild, included in this update.

There’s also better Spotify integration. It isn’t a huge change, but users can now browse the curated playlists within Spotify, directly from djay Pro itself. There’s also an improved syncing system that is better at coping with variable BPM music… Something I really wish Traktor had!

Check out what’s new direct from them below.

We’re excited to announce a free update to our Apple Design Award winning djay Pro software for Mac. The update comes with major new features including plug & play support for Pioneer DJ NXS2/TOUR1 set-ups and enhanced Touch Bar integration on the new MacBook Pro.

New in djay Pro is also an extensive integration with Spotify’s Browse section, so you can mix curated playlists and instantly discover new music by mood, genre, and popularity. Get a free trial of Spotify Premium to check it out.

  • Various fixes and performance improvements

I feel like a fairly big deal should be made about the fact that not only does djay Pro support the Link functionality, but (correct me if I’m wrong) it’s the only software to use the TOUR1 system for control. If you’re royalty or an oligarch and fancy using your laptop to mix some videos on your DJ setup, now you can! The rest of the updates are pretty much building on what’s there, and the bug fixes are welcomed.

What i’d like to see added in the future is much more for personal preference. The software is already pretty mature on macOS. First thing that would be cool is some MIDI clock or Ableton Link. Coupled with the adaptive internal sync, you could get Maschine or Ableton slaved to some disco classics. I’d also like to have better support for Traktor hardware. Not only are the S-series controllers pretty ubiquitous, but so are the likes of the X1, D2 or F1. Mappings for those would be very welcome. I could even dream of getting the controllers with screens working.

Do you use djay Pro? What’s your experience with the software?

You can buy djay Pro for Mac from the App Store. Existing users get the update for free.

Algoriddim has announced updates to its djay Pro app for macOS and iOS that add more controllers and cloud DJ data sync. djay Pro Mac v2.0.5 and djay Pro iOS v1.0.12 now allow you to sync cue points, loops and saved EQs over the cloud. Meanwhile, the Mac app now works with the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SB3, DDJ-SR2, DDJ-1000 and XDJ-RX2 controllers, and the Numark Party Mix.

Note that currently, the waveforms on the jogwheel displays on the DDJ-1000 don’t work, and the XDJ-RX2 performance pad LEDs likewise don’t work with these mappings. Also this is only for Apple; Android and Windows users don’t currently get these updates.

More info over on the Algoriddim website.

What are your thoughts on these updates? Have you tried using djay Pro yet? If so, what do you like most about it? Let us know in the comments.
